Independence
Why an independent clinic matters when choosing a brand
Many hearing clinics in Canada are owned by or tied to a single manufacturer. At those clinics, there is a high likelihood you will be recommended and fitted with that manufacturer's hearing aids regardless of suitability. At an independent clinic the comparison is real. If a particular brand's sound suits you better, or handles restaurants better for your hearing loss, that’s the one we recommend.
-
Widex
A Danish manufacturer known for natural sound quality and very low processing delay, which many wearers describe as sounding more like their own hearing. Widex was early to the market with rechargeable models and offers strong tinnitus features. People who are sensitive to the "processed" sound of hearing aids often prefer Widex.
-
Signia
Signia hearing aids focus on speech clarity and on making the wearer's own voice sound natural, which is one of the most common complaints from new users. The range includes a broad set of styles, from tiny custom aids to rechargeable RICs with Bluetooth and app-based remote adjustment.
-
ReSound
ReSound is known for connectivity. It was among the first to stream directly from iPhone and offers reliable Android connection as well, with a well-regarded app. Sound processing is designed to keep the whole environment audible while making speech stand out, and the range includes strong rechargeable options.
-
Starkey
The largest American hearing aid manufacturer. Starkey aids include built-in health and activity features in some models, such as step counting and fall detection alerts, alongside sound processing that leans on artificial intelligence. Custom in-the-ear styles are a particular strength.
-
Phonak
A Swiss manufacturer and one of the most widely fitted brands in Canada. Phonak is known for universal Bluetooth that connects to almost any phone or device, for powerful aids that suit severe and profound loss, and for a broad, consistent range across every style.
-
Oticon
Another Danish manufacturer, with a processing approach that aims to give the brain access to the full sound scene rather than narrowing it to one voice.
Our method
Brand selection process
The brand of hearing aid is determined only after a comprehensive test and detailed discussion with you. Following a hearing test, our hearing instrument specialist discusses your lifestyle, situations where you desire to hear better, cosmetic preferences and dexterity issues that may impact the decision. This information allows us to select an appropriate hearing aid and technology level, and to conduct a complimentary in-office demo.
Good to know
Common questions about hearing aid brands
Which hearing aid brand is best?
No single brand. Each of the six brands we carry makes excellent hearing aids. The best brand for you is the one that sounds most natural to you and suits your hearing loss. A hearing aid demo and a comprehensive hearing test help determine this decision.
Why do you carry six brands instead of one?
Because people are different. Independence lets us compare and recommend honestly.
Can you service hearing aids from different brands?
Yes, for the six brands we carry. If yours is another make, call us, and we’ll let you know if we can help.
Which brands work with an iPhone or Android phone?
All six now offer models that connect to both. The details differ by model and by phone, and we check compatibility with your actual phone during the demo.
