Hear & Co, Hearing Tests and Hearing Aids

Why choose us

Why choose Hear & Co

Choosing a hearing clinic is choosing the people who will look after your hearing for years. Here is the exceptional service you can expect from Hear & Co, and why it matters.

  1. Independent, not tied to one manufacturer

Many hearing clinics are owned by, or supply only, a single hearing aid manufacturer, so their advice is limited to one catalogue. Hear & Co is independent and fits six leading brands: Widex, Signia, ReSound, Starkey, Phonak and Oticon. We recommend the hearing aid that suits your hearing and your life, and you hear it in a complimentary demo before you decide.

  2. Complimentary hearing tests for anyone 55 and over

The hearing test is the step most people delay, sometimes for years, so we removed the reason to delay it. If you are 55 or older, your full hearing test is complimentary and carries no obligation. You leave knowing exactly where your hearing stands. Everyone should have their hearing tested every two years, whatever their age. Under 55, the test is $55, credited back if hearing aids are purchased through our clinic. You can claim it as a medical expense on your taxes (speak with your accountant or tax advisor), and many extended health plans reimburse the cost of a hearing test.

  3. Complimentary hearing aid demos

Our in-clinic demos are complimentary and programmed to your own hearing test results, so you hear the recommendation in real conversation before you commit to anything.

  4. State-of-the-art equipment and hearing aids

Modern, to us, is as much about how you are treated as what we test with. Testing is done in a sound-treated booth, results are explained on a screen in front of you in the same visit, and the hearing aids we fit are the latest technology from six manufacturers. Booking is online, appointments start on time, and nobody is rushed.

  5. Care that continues after the fitting

A hearing aid fitting is the start of our care, not the end of it. For three years after your fitting, adjustments, cleaning, checks and reprogramming as your hearing changes are all included, with no limit on visits. Cleans and checks are included for the life of the hearing aids. Every pair also comes with a three-year manufacturer warranty and three years of loss coverage.

  6. Independently owned

Hear & Co is owned by the people who run it, not by a hearing aid manufacturer or a national chain. That is why we can carry six brands, and why the person accountable for your care is the one in the room with you.

  7. Everything under one roof

Hearing tests, ear wax removal, hearing aids and demos, custom earplugs and employment hearing tests are all done here. If a wax check turns into a hearing test, or a hearing test turns into a demo, it happens in the same visit.

Who you will see

What a hearing instrument specialist does

Your appointments at Hear & Co are with a hearing instrument specialist, a hearing professional trained to assess hearing, interpret the results, and select, fit, program and service hearing aids. Our specialists are certified by the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners of Ontario (AHIP) and work with adults with every degree of hearing loss.

Medical conditions of the ear are outside that scope. If your hearing test or ear examination shows something that needs a physician or an ear, nose and throat specialist, we say so and help you get there.

Questions about choosing us

What is the difference between a hearing instrument specialist and an audiologist?

Both test hearing and fit hearing aids. An audiologist holds a university graduate degree and can also diagnose and manage a wider range of hearing and balance disorders, including in children. A hearing instrument specialist is trained specifically in adult hearing assessment and hearing aid fitting. For adults whose need is hearing aids or a hearing check, a hearing instrument specialist is a full-service option. Where a medical issue is suspected, we refer.

Do I need a referral?

No. Every service can be booked directly.

Why does independence matter?

Because the recommendation is not limited to one catalogue. We can match the brand and model to you and compare alternatives honestly. Being independent means our only bias is making sure you are happy.

What if I am not sure I need hearing aids?

Then a complimentary hearing test is the right first step. If you do not need them, we will say so, and suggest when to check again. If you need them but are not sure you are ready, we offer a demo so you can try them and see what you think for yourself.
